I. Review of minutes & budget:

Motion made by Michael Denman to approve minutes & budget; Seconded by Merrell; approved unanimously.

Minutes approved as amended

Schedule for mini-conference and location changed: Monroe High School

II Constitution Day: September 8, 2007

Michelle introduced a rough copy of the program; Merrell and Amanda will man the table for SCSSA for the day. Need to have membership forms there for recruitment. We will also be selling Sonia Nunez books. Merrell will ask Sarah if she has any other giveaways we can put at our table. Michael Denman suggested we show pictures of what SCSSA does—PowerPoint by Merrell.

III. Mini-Conference

Registration is low but expected to go higher. It will be in the UTLA paper and will go out again in other forms over the next few weeks. Conference starts at 8; Merrell will show up at 7 a.m. and will be bringing breakfast for all attendees. September 29, 2007; Bring bumper stickers and anything else in our inventory

IV Joel: Increasing CCSS Membership

Reviewed some recommendations that he and other CCSS membership committee representatives have put together to increase membership. Talk to Sarah about mailing lists;

V. Fowler Museum

If we can get confirmation that the Fowler will not the cash the $250 check we gave them earlier in the year, we will let them have their table for free.

VI. SCSSA Membership

Our current membership is only at 285 people. Amanda wants outreach with postcards. Martha is willing to photocopy and cut; Amanda will be responsible for distributing by hand to local schools; 500 people in SCSSA is our goal

VII SCSSA Activities

Movie Night: Joel spoke to Lion’s Gate and they may allow us to go to a premier when the next appropriate film comes out. Amanda also sent a letter to Karen at the LA Times.

VIII.Next meeting:

NCSS needs volunteers; CCSS awards due in December; Author series
